From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  1. i was wondering if anyone knew the song in the pepsi commercial: hotdog loves pepsi.

    the boy is in the pepsi suit and the girl is in the hot dog suit with yellow chuck taylors.
    “all i can say is my life is really plain, i like to watch the puddles fill with rain..”

    also it’s a few months old but the HP commercial with the digital photography and there is an old couple on the beach and other random things. it sounds like a dido song but i couldn’t find it.

  4. The JCPenny Commerical Song is “Roc your Body (Mic Check)” by MVP featuring Stagga Lee. It is an OLD song. It came out in 2003. The JCPenny Commerical is way better than the original video. I thought I was the only person searching high and low for this song. Score one for JCPenny!!

  6. There is A TIA Cref commercial on now. It’s a soft song sung by a male singer. I believe the lyrics start with ” there is a place for us”. Anyone know this one?

  7. Does anyone know the song in the Mercury Mountaineer commercial, the first of the two new ads? It is instrumental but it has lyrics to it. The song sounds like its a soft rock song

  8. i’M TRYING TO FIND A SONG FROM A COMMERCIAL which aired a few times in the last several months but I’ve forgotten the company name…i think it might have something to do with buying odds and ends. It shows several weird items obviously not found in regular stores. All the while there is a woman singing about wonderful/or beautiful things…sounds a little jazzy. She has a unique voice, sort of throaty. Near the end of the commercial it shows the back-side of a husky man in a speedo flexing one butt cheek! Can someone help me out?

    To Sheila: The song “Color My World” used in M&M commercials is a cover of a Petula Clark song, sung by a studio artist named Renee Cologne who they brought in. Renee’s version has not been released but you can check out her website at: http://www.reneecologne.com/

    To Katrina: The song used in the “Pepsi Loves Hotdog” is “No Rain” by Blind Melon.

    The song is a parody of the song “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh” by Allen Sherman.

  20. Anyone have a clue about the song in the Secret Platinum commercial airing right now. It’s the one where the women are all checking their underarms for odor. It seems to be a catchy guitar hook, but I have no idea who did that song. Someone mentioned it was the same song used in the TLC show In A Fix…anyone know? There’s a guess that it might be a song by Bob Mould. The name of the song would be helpful…it’s driving me crazy. Thanks.

    Does anyone know the song in the new 7 Up commercial? Everyone is really hot (temperature wise) and this guy is listening to the radio. The female DJ at the radio station takes a drink of 7 Up and blows into the microphone and it cools off the guy listening to the radio (who is pretty hot BOTH ways).

  31. Once again we have another awesome movie theatrical trailer, with an awesome song at the end of the trailer, that doesn’t happen to be on the movie soundtrack. I’m talking about the theatrical trailer for Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and if you’ve seen the trailer online or on TV you’d know what I’m talking about. I was so mad when I bought the soundtrack the other day to find that the song is not on the soundtrack CD. The song has lyrics in it that go something like “the more I live, the more I know, the more I live, the more I go.” I would really appreciate anybody’s help with this. Thanks!

  38. The TIA commercial is from West Sides Story. Tony sings it to Maria, but I don’t know who did the cover for it for the commercial.

  39. Just saw a commercial this morning where at the end, the garage opens up and there are two suvs side by side. A woman, who sounds an awfully lot like Paula Cole, is singing very sweetly, “It’s my life….It’s my life”. Does anybody know who does this song? It’s a very mellow song.

  41. Hey, does anyone know the song from this commercial. It’s a classical piece I’m thinking from a famous opera, sung by a male. In the commercial we see this kid, running around the streets looking like he’s trying to hide out from someone, then a car pulls up all mafia style and four or five other kids come out to “make the hit” and peg the kid with water balloons in slow motion. I’m pretty sure it’s a car commercial but I can’t remember which one. Thanks a bunch.

  43. Danielle, I believe you’re talking about a car
    commercial. The opera is Pagliacci by Leoncavallo, and the piece is Vesti la giubba. It is used quite abit in movies. It’s the opera where the clown is singing, and he’s crying and laughing. It was in The Untouchables with Robert De Niro.

    Just wanting to know the song from the Aquous commercial as well, and the song from the iPod + HP commercial is “The Boogie That Be” by The Black Eyed Peas, off the cd Elephunk.
