Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  2. The commercial is fairly recent. It’s a beer commercial for Molson Canadian “cold shots”. Beer in silver, thin can. It’s with two guys standing by a refrigerater and one guy is checking out the other guys’ girl. Not knowing it’s his buddies girlfriend. Their at a party and there’s an amazing dance song in the background. If you can help me with this song it would be much appreciated. Just the name of the artist, if possible, will do. Thanks. Phil!

    I’m pretty sure the singer in the Barilla Pasta commercials is Andrea Bocelli, a blind operatic singer. He’s quite good.

    I believe the Salt N Peppa song playing during the office commercial is “Push It”, one of their early hits.

    The song kris asked about is “Love Train” by the O’Jays.

    I think the Jewel song Lisa wanted is “This way” off an album by the same name.

    We’re all trying to find the song. The song is called “More to See” (like the name of the ad campaign) and there’s a group effort trying to find it.

  13. Looking for two songs on HBO, the first is the opening and closing tracks to Russel Simmons’ Def Poetry, I think its by the the Minnesota Factory or something, at least that is what the credits roll at the end of the show.
    Secondly, the HBO promo for the fall featuring all the new movies they are rolling out has a song with the lyrics “all the things you do”. Thanks much for any and all help.

  15. In this particular Ford Truck comercial the girl, a brunett with a red sexy mid baring top, and the “perfect hips” (leaning against a white mustang)is singing. Who is she and what are the lyrics? The comercial ends with a quick view of a beauty qeen winner. Doe anyone know who she is?

  16. Do you know who sings the song in the Wrangler commercial? THey are down by the lake or river fishing, its old kind of like for example The Steve Miller Band?

    Also, how about the Nissan commercial that has the big band song in the back ground, like frank sinatra?

Does anyone know the title and artist that sings the song for the XBOX 2005 NHL commercial where the b/f and g/f are hanging out throughout the video then they are on their way to a concert, she gets in the cab and he shuts the door to look at the ad for the new NHL game.     i was in a store not too long ago and heard a song i liked so i asked the chick working who it was by and i could have sworn she said ‘gold trap’ but apparently i was wrong
    anyway im almost positive it was in a game boy commercial where the guy holding the gameboy just kind of freezes and a bunch of characters from gameboy games just start popping out all around him

  25. There is this one commercial where a tire rolls by in every shot, and theres a pregnant woman, and then theres a guy working out and the tire is on a treadmill, theres a ton more, but i love song in the background and i dont know who sings it or what the song is called. Help!!!

  32. I am looking for a song title from a JCPenny Commercial that I think is still airing, as of 10/8/04. It features a man waiting for a bus and he sees a woman get on a bus, and they eventually run into each other later on in the commercial. It sounds like a song from the Beatles? The lyrics feature the word “bus”??? Any help????

  38. ok.. the commercial is for motorolla.. “hello moto” it has a guy on a train going thru car to car and each car has something different going on.. well.. theres a song playing in the background and it has a band playing in one of the cars.. then in the end the guy is sitting next to the singer. so if anyone knows the song that is, title and/or who does it. i’d love you forever!!! thanx!
