Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  2. I AM HOPING THAT SOMEONE HELPS ME OUT WITH THIS OLD COMMERCIAL. I CANNOT REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS FOR, EITHER AN IPOD, COULD BE PEPSI. I AM NOT SURE. BUT IN THE COMMERCIAL THERE IS A HEAVY WHITE GUY (BOY) , I BELIEVE HE’S NEXT TO A TREE AND HE IS DANCING AND I MEAN ‘GETTING DOWN’ TO THIS ONE SONG. IT THINK ITS TECHNO, NO WORDS THAT I KNOW OF.

    SO ONCE AGAIN…FAT KID DANCING BY THE TREE, AND HE IS GETTING DOWN, DOING THE BOOTY SHAKE AND EVERYTHING.THERES A BUNCH OF SCHOOL KIDS OUTSIDE BUT NO ONE’S REALLY PAYING HIM . I MEAN YOU SHOULD REMEMBER THIS KID JUST BY THE FACT THAT HES HEAVY BUT YET HE IS DANCING HIS BOOTY OFF.

Hopefully you all can help out this time around: ~THE SONG FOR THE XEROX COMMERCIALS???!!!~ There’s no lyrics to this song besides “come on, come on”..The song’s genre is electronic or something like that. The song sounds very simple from what little bit I have heard of it. I think the song has also featured on other commercials such as the ones for “Drug Free America”. Thanks all. It had a man and a woman swimming in a pool, competeing I guess and the man gets to the end of the pool and the woman is sitting there with a beer in her hand.I forget the brand but I really want to know the name of the song in the back ground that went like “…is this love…”

  19. Found the name of the song I was looking for. I wrote to the Xerox company and they got back to me quite promptly. A day after I wrote the mail in fact!! :) I’ll post the info. here just in case anyone else has been wondering about the Xerox advert background music in the states.

    I just saw a Gamboy Advance commercial where the guy is having the things bounce out of his gameboy and a techno song is playing.

    It isn’t the one with the girls voice, it has no vocals it is just Techno and it sounds like it has been in a movie or another car commercial. I just don’t know which one.

  42. The cruise line commercial I believe is “Lust for Life” by Iggy Pop. It’s on the 1st Trainspotting Soundtrack. Does anyone know the song in this cell phone commercial. It takes place in San Fran and it’s a guy driving a car. Words are “Take a load off..”? Thanks!

  46. There is a commercial with a song I just love. ( might be a Geiko commercial or a car commercial) and the singer sounds a lot like Elvis. It goes “I got my rabbit ears on and I wanna get Chummy Chummy (? not sure of those last two words).If anybody knows the title and artist, I would appreciate you letting me know in this forum.   49. The EA sports commercials have used Carmina Burana: Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi:I. O Fortuna really majestic, triumphant music. this had been bugging me until today. Had originally heard it when I saw Excalibur. One of my 9 year old son’s favorite songs, BTW. :)
