From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  3. i am trying to find out a name of a song and the artist who sings it. all i know is its starts out with ” Boys boys be my boys i wanna feel your body.” thats all i can remember and its a techno song i thought it was played in night at the roxbury but its not on their soundtrack can anyone help??

    It’s a Geico commercial and the song name is the CB Song it’s done by the Legendary Shack Shakers on a cd called Cock A Doodle Don’t

    The song is called “You Gotta Be” and it’s by Des’ree. It’s a great song! I just looked it up a little while ago because I heard it on the radio. Glad to help, enjoy!

  20. I am looking for song that I hear on commercials at the movie theatre..I haven’t seen it on TV. But, I have seen it at the theatre a few times. The commercial is about cameras and it says something like “it’s a beautiful night, you wanna spend it with me”..or something. It has a chick riding on a motorcycle and she is all silver..help! I am so in love with this song!

    the “went down to nazareth…” song is called “the weight” i don’t know who sings it in the commercial but its by the supremes and the temptations.

  25. lulu: the song “the weight” was written and performed by “the band”. robbie robertson of the band was the actual writer. the band was bob dylan’s touring band, hence jennifer’s response about bob dyan singing.

Ok, I just can’t seem to remember or find the song in the Christmas JCPenney’s commercial…I think someone is delivering presents to the door wrapped in gold..etc. it’s a lady singing and I think it’s an older song from back in the day….and it’s not the 2 other songs already listed on this site.
    I love the person who can release me from this obsession I have for finding this damn song.

  37. I’m looking for the name of a song for a car commercial in the late seventies ..not sure of the company it supported. A girl sang, “You look so good, baby whatever you wear. Summer, spring, honey, anything. Winter, fall, anything at all. You can’t hide the you, you’ve got inside”. There was a whole song done and it played on local radio stations at the time. My daughter was very young at the time and would like to get a copy of it.

  45. Can anyone tell me the name of the artist and the guitar music (minor key) in a car commercial about 6 months ago. I believe it was a Saab or upscale foreign car, driving along a winding road. Heard the song again on recent “Animal Planet” show where potbellied pigs were giving birth at this couples’ home. It is a soothing guitar, no lyrics, and I have not been able to get this song out of my mind.
