Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  5. There was a recent commercial out, maybe a car insurance or computer commercial? The song is all in a very upbeat whistle, no lyrics just the whistling and almost sounds like an old 50’s era or 60’s era pop song.. Does anybody know what commercial it was from and or artist and song title?

  9. To everyone who was wondering what that song that went woo hoo woo hoo hoo is… the name of the song is, Woo Hoo, (go figure). It was a vonage commercial, and it is also on the kill bill volume 1 soundtrack. It is performed by the japanese band, The 5.6.7.8’s… Saw the commercial yesterday and had way too much time on my hands today to find out what that song was.

  27. Hi I’m looking for a song from an animatrix commercial…it’s some really fast techno song with no lyrics(as far as I remember). I saw it at like 1:30 a.m I think in december ’04 during adult swim on cartoon network….it was also in a michelob ultra commercial a year or more ago. I looked around and it seemed like it was by a band called Overseer…but i’ve listened to a dozen or more of their songs and none of them were it.   29. Hey, I’m wondering. Does anybody know that one song in an audi commercial?

    It’s like: there’s a narration about a guy who’s test driving the car, but never came home, and they’re telling us to contact him on his cell phone, to not drive away with the car, also that his kids and his wife misses him (and his wife says that he’s going to be in trouble).

    It was hilarious, when I first saw it, but now it’s boring, and I just want to know what the song is.

    I actually thought it was from the strokes, it sounds like it’s from them.

The song is in a mitsubishi commercial where it focuses on a man driving through different situations that happen in the car. Such as a wedding, a pregnancy, people about to go clubbing, and the end is the man driving in the car by himself smiling. If anyone knows the Name of the band please help me out.   38. Hey Zero! Quit passing out incorrect info to people. It’s obvious you don’t know what you’re talking about. The song in the (unknown) car commercial is called “Cars” and was indeed written and performed Gary Numan and can be found on his album The Pleasure Principle (as well as numerous 80’s compilations). There was also a crappy cover version recorded more recently by some shite band. The Cars never did a version of this song. That is the definitive answer.
