Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  1. hey does anyone know the song from a shoe commercial….u know the one wit the guy that sleeping and some shoes rool from under his bed and he puts on the shoes and they light up a path for him and stuff….it kinda go like the lights are golden when ever i wake up….something like dat lol

  3. and how about the one in the volkswagon commercial where the people are listening to that rock song and the neighbors are angry so they move. it sounds like the strokes or killers or something.

  7. IT’s a commercial is about a Girl that was Young and dated different type of guys and there was a Blonde Puppy in the car. Few of the guys she dated was a Hippy and then a business man and at the end her car broke down at a bridge and her hair was cut short and the puppy grew up to a dog and a man came to help here. Jewel has been recruited by digital camera maker Canon to write the theme tune for their latest $10 million dollar ad campaign:’during the ad, Jewel sings, “Paint a picture in your mind/Nothing is crueler than the passing of time.” Jewel returns to her folkie roots in the theme song she wrote for the campaign. She goes on to sing, “Please say you’ll stay forever this way.”

  12. Amber: The song for the Sea World Commercial is by a South African Group called Qkumba Zoo – Wake up & Dream. The Song name is “Child (inside).” The only problem finding this song may be that it’s no longer in print. It came out back in the mid/early 90’s.

    1. I was a kid remembering this I think I Cinemax or showtime was doing songs while showing clips of the movies back in the day . The song goes “ can’t fight can’t breath the very end the night only one that can is wine is me” while showing the movie the house sand and frog and underworld movie clips

  21. Ok, I’m sure that somebody has already asked…but I couldn’t find it up there. There is an iPod commercial with this song that says “Rock with me, rock with me, oohhhh” but I am not finding what it’s called. It’s driving me crazy!!! Please help!

  22. I have no idea what it’s called, but its this woman singing “color my world” or something like that on the M&M commercials, with the colorful m&ms doing that weird ripple effect. It’s just so cool – is it a real song or is it just for the M&Ms?

    or
    “i’m where ever i wanna be, as i’m riding down the Boulevard”
    The words are kind of hard to tell what the guys saying, but it’s so awesome. I’ed love to know what it was.

    TIP: Up on your menu click EDIT and choose FIND(on This Page) a small window will open and in the FIND WHAT: type in a key word related to whatever it is your looking for. (Example: brody or diet coke) Keep hitting FIND NEXT, it will search the whole page. It comes in handy when there isn’t a search option available. Hope this helps

  29. I really want to know one song from a recent Toyota commercial. It is instrumental and the commercial features people literally chained to their old junky cars while other people drive by in Toyotas…it’s a pretty upbeat song, but with a mello feel…anyone?!

  30. I’m guessing since GnT didn’t answer the question about the Suzuki Boulevard song (how does he come up with all these answers?) that it must not be a real song….just a catchy jingle by a studio band / singers….Please tell me I’m wrong…lol

    I received your letter inquiring about our music for Suzuki Boulevard cruiser motorcycles. We commissioned a local music group to create that piece for the launch of this new brand of motorcycles. It was created specifically for us, and is not available commercially.

  48. The new commercial has used the beatles song the long and winding road, i know iam a young guy but i must have listen to that song a thousand times until i lost my hard drive. So a couple of weeks later i turn the tv and see kid saying that they can’t ride in car if it doesn’t have onstar and in the back ground the beatles song is playing no lyrics just the music, they change the notes a little but its the beatles. Some one may be getting sued, cause that is the beatles song

  49. Does anyone remember the old commercial for Dow Basin, Tub and Tile cleaner’s “Scrubbing Bubbles”? the narrator says “They’re coming” and all these little scrubbers start scrubbing all over the bathroom?

    well I am looking for the Instrumental music that was featured in the background of that commercial. It’s very climactic and dramatic sounding. anyone know it?
