Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  5. Hey, does anyone know the song on a recent car commercial (I’m not sure what car). It shows different parts of the car and compares it to a spider web. At the end it says, “beauty has a dark side” (or something to that effect).

  7. Does anyone know the song from the Cingular Wireless commercial “Raising the Bar”? It’s the one with the couple and it shows how they meet, marry, and then in the end I guess they’re moving (or something like that). There is a song that is playing and I don’t know who it is, it sounds like an oldie. It says something like “I’m loving you more, loving you more every time….” Can someone please help? It’s driving me crazy, thanks.

  11. Does anyone know the artist and title of the song where the lyrics are like “here comes the sun, its for everyone”, then after another line or two theres “across the universe, do you dare?” I have no idea what the commercial is about but if I find out I’ll say so if that helps.

    I’ve wondered about the song from the Pontiac commercials as well. After researching it awhile on the internet, I found this out: The artist is named Yummy Bingham, but I think she just goes by, ‘Yummy’. The album is called, ‘First Seed’. The song is called, ‘Come get it’ and it features a rapper named Jadakiss.

  16. I am looking for an instrumental song that sounds like Spanish guitar. This sounds weird, but it sounds like horses with a continuous clucking sound. Really funky and hypnotic, I heard it in a Thai restaurant in NYC last week (the biache waitress refused to check out the name of it on the iPod mix).

Hey, does anyone know the song from the Nike commerical where a guy is in bed and then he jumps out of bed, puts on shoes, and starts running and leaping all around the place…the song has a girl singing, sounds vaguely a little like Dido to me, but I’m not sure its her. I’ve heard this person/artist’s songs in quite a few commercials, and I need to know who it is! Thanks!!

    The music from the Nike commercial is karen O from the Yeah Yeah yeah’s. the commercial was done by Spike jonze.

  28. “Such Great Heights” is by the Postal Service, but for that M&M commercial I think they used the Iron & Wine cover.

    Also, I know someone answered the Suzuki/guy jumping off cliff commercial one a long time ago, but just a warning: the rest of that album by the Mooney Suzuki is horrible. Horrible! Don’t buy it thinking, “ooh this is a good song” because you will be sorely disappointed.

    Also, does anyone know the song that plays during the holiday JC penny commercial? The commercial itself has lots of red in it, and parts with a mouse clicking on people to change the gifts and whatnot. The song they play sounds like an oldie, but it could just be a throw-back of some sort. I can’t seem to figure out who does it though!

  33. I want to know who in the hell the song and artist is on that old mtv commercial where this boy is throwing rocks at his girlfriend’s window. When she doesn’t come to the window he rides his bike back home to find his girlfriend in his front lawn with rocks in her hand.   35. I’m hoping someone has seen the new-ish Pontiac Torrant commercial that plays a track that I would like to know the name of along with the artist.     I’ve finally found my new song that I’ve been looking for for a while now. It’s called “Rock Ya Body” by Stagga Lee, and it may sound familiar to you as it was featured in a U.S. JCPenney back to school commercial this past summer. It’s a pretty good song.

  49. In case anyone doesn’t know how to google and needs to know the song in the cingular wireless commercial with the guy waiting for the girl to call him, its a Cat Power cover, Waiting on the Telephone….(its actually a cover of Nerves song)but its nowhere to be found!!! Not on any albums yet.
