Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  6. In reference to Zero’s earlier comments, “here in my car” is not the name of the song and it’s not done by The Cars. It’s, as suggested by an earlier poster, Cars by Gary Numan, which was covered by Fear Factory.

  7. Like John earlier, I too am looking for the song featured in the Rice Krispies campaign. Has a Hawaiian (for lack of better term) sound to it. I have heard it in a movie before, but I can’t remember what movie.. maybe 50 First Dates.

    Just found “The Birds and The Bees” answer up above about a payless commercial. they say it’s by artist: Patrick and Eugene on the CD “Postcard from Summerisle”. I haven’t yet looked to see if it’s the right one.

  12. I am looking for the name of a song done about 5 years ago for a hotel commercial, it’s sounds alot like Simple Minds with a strong male voice basically screaming the opening. I had heard it was group called Jade but I have yet to find a group with that name doing this song. It’s driving me crazy. The singer’s voice is very strong similar in strength to Bono’s

  24. The car commercial with the “I love you” lyrics repeated is by The Dandy Warhols. I believe this particular song is from “Come Down”.

    Same band’s “Bohemian Like You” song has appeared in alcohol and clothing adverts (like Gap).

    The Payless “Easter shoes” song by Patrick & Eugene (“Birds & Bees”) is now promoting the ‘return’ of the VW Rabbit (in other words, the Rabbit won’t be renamed ‘Golf’ anymore?).

  25. Can anyone tell me the name of the song in the newest Target Commercial? It sounds really, really familiar, and I cannot place it.

    The lyrics are something along the lines of “Gotta (repeated a lot of times) get it right now. Really (repeated) want it, gotta get more.”

  34. Wondering the name of the song at the end of a Heineken commercial playing in Canada currently. The commercial shows a space craft landing on Mars, and one of the ground controllers sets the lander up as a bar, with an open Heineken, waiting to see if there is life on Mars. I am interested in the song the plays at the end of the commercial. Kind of a techno-jazzy-piano song.

I don’t know if commenter 678, Heather, is still looking for the song played during the Hallmark Channel’s commercials for “Love’s Enduring Promise” (and “Love Comes Softly”) , but if so there is a discussion about it on IMDB’s boards for the movie “Love Comes Softly” (to which “Love’s Enduring Promise” is a sequel). The song is by Dean Landon and Anika Paris. I don’t know where to get the song but you may get more information from Dean Landon’s website at http://www.deanlandon.com. Does anyone know the song thats played in the car for the cobalt car commerical, where “johnny” and his two friends are inside and the guy in the backseat tells the guy in the passenger seat to turn up the radio then “johnny” makes him turn it down because it’s “distracting”.
