Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  3. Has anyone seen the new Nip Tuck commercial for the upcoming Fall 2006 season? The two surgeons are building a white statue, and the song in the background has lyrics almost verbatim to this:

    “Where after all that we’ve been through
    Would you still call this love baby
    Cuz love’s the only truth
    That can (couldn’t hear what he sang)
    Well the truck’s just
    Don’t like the way they made us crazy love
    Love is the only drug”

  4. Anone know who sings that song in the Hummer commercial with the 2 women and their kids on the slide? The one woman cuts in front of the other – so the second woman goes out and buys a Hummer.
    The song seems to have a chorus of ” This little girl’s gonna rock it..”
    Soundslike it should be a 60’s or 50’s group or solo artist??

  6. To Sue, No. 807, the song in the Hummer ad with the mom and kid on a slide is “This Little Girl’s Gone Rockin'” by Glenda Collins. You were right, it’s from the 60s. Available on Amazon.

  9. Attempting to find out the name to the theme song that plays in most of the Go Army commercials. No words, so it may be a bit tricky. It’s heavy modern metal from between 1997 – 2000 from what I can tell. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  10. I’m looking for this song that’s in a new car commercial but I don’t what car company it’s for. It’s in black and white with people running all over the place in the desert I think with them racing cars against each other. It really fast paste…about a 30 sec commercial. The song sounds like a Filter song but Filter is not even together anymore so I know it’s not them. It’s a heavy rock song that totally kicks butt! Please Help!

    its for the new “chocolate” phone. at first theres a low base. then its like some kind of high pitched female tchno voice and at the end its like. “””i’m in love, i’m in love”

  20. This is for Kat #815. I found it. The song on the new JCPenney’s ad is “Do What You Want” by OK Go. Their name appears in the poster on the commercial. I located them on ITunes and have just downloaded it. Quite good.

  22. Ok, so here’s some commercial music that may be driving you nuts because I know it sure drove me:

    The Suzuki commercial where the husband goes to work and goes cliffhanging to get to his car has kick ass music. It’s called “Alive && Amplified”– The Mooney Suzuki [no it’s not a joke band though I first thought so.]

    The other commercial I nearly died over was the Chili’s Make Your Own Big Mouth Burger. Their music is purely instrumental though it sounds amazing. It’s “Get Up” –Bleu, off their album Redneck.

    Both of them are availible on iTunes, just search the artist.

    Okay, so I asked before for a commercial song for khols tony hawk line and i still need to know thats song because i really like it and its bugging me not knowing what it is but i also need to know another khols commercial song and some of the lyrics go like “want a transformation take a walk outside” and the one for the tony hawk commercial i think goes like “de la fuego” or something like that, i don’t really know…

    the army commercial. the one with no words. where they where they go oowawawa. well i don’t know the song name but it is a song by disturbed. if not by disturbed godsmack. i hope i have pointed you in the right direction.

    oh yea and can anyone please help me find out the song name and band for the new hawk clothing line commercial. it’s for kohl’s. it’s like in spanish it it goes something like “en mi espo, en mi espo, en mi espo, de la fuago” and it just repeats that part. if anyone can please help me with that one it would be great. thanks

    “gonna need my help” by the muggs when you UNLEASH CHARGER up in the right hand corner of the new box just click on select a track and they will give you the song name and other songs to choose from.

  28. response to 733 it’s “Spinning wheel” by Blood, Sweat, and Tears. What instrumental piece is played in the “Diamond is forever” commercial where a young couple passes and older couple and they take a stroll in the park.

    1) on top of your screen click “Edit” then “Find (on this page) and type in your words it will search this and you might have your question answered.
    2) if you know words to the song go to http://www.letssingit.com they will tell you songs that have those words in it.

    the first is from the kmart back to school commercial where there’s a girl jumping on her bed and then 2 guys in their room and the song goes something like “c’mon c’mon do what you want”

    the second is from the new ABC family commercial for the ABC family: a new kind of family. i can’t really make out any of the words from the commercial.
