Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  11. Does anyone know the name of the song and artist for a current 15 second ad by Westin Hotels? The ad is very simple, it just says “Breathe” and “This is how it should feel” — it was shown at the end of the Superbowl this year — it’s real chilled-out, has a slow electric guitar on reverb, and has a woman singing, at the end, “oooooooooo, Uh-Huhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…” any help would be greatly appreciated. Please email me like yesterday! It’s been eating away at me for almost 9 months now and I just cant find it.

  17. I really need help finding a song for a car comercial that aired a couple months ago. Ths has been driving me nuts. I think its a Nissan.

    In it, they take a bunch of images of this orange Nissan and spin it around and make cool 3d collages and tunnels with them. (I wish I could describe it better)

    In the background there is this pop/techno song that is playing that starts off with “Its not a moment to soon its like the sun and the moon”
    and it ends with “Music revolution now.”

  20. If anyone is still looking for the new song from the PAYLESS SHOES COMMERCIAL it is called KATE by a group called SAMBASSADEUR. Hope this helps…it was driving me nuts trying to find it.

  21. There is an old school funk song, mnemonically “Happy 2 C U A Gain” is the title, from the mid-late 70’s. TOyota used in a commercial in the last 10 years. I have searched ALL over, cannot find this song….or artist. We had the album, back in college…..VERY funk, very beat-oriented. Help?

    It wasn’t a Nissan commercial but a Chevy HHR. Not the point… Anyway, the song is called Music Revolution by Scumfrog off their album Simmer.

    its about 2 years old.

  42. This might help: The lyrics for the Kohl’s Tony Hawk commercial are “Maestro del fuego”, not en mi espo de la fuego, or whatever crazy crap you guys came up with.

If they don’t have the name of the song under customer relations or news, then e-mail them. I’m sure they’d be more than happy to tell you the name of the song which you’re looking for.

    There are way too many posts to read through here to see if someone has answered your question, so it is much easier to find it yourself. With a little dedication, it is NOT HARD to find the song you’re looking for.

  45. To Taylor #886, the “woo hoo” song… I think it’s “Diamonds and Guns” by the Transplants … (it has that beat … but it might be a cover of something else, I don’t know)

    As for me, I have a question too: Does anyone know the song that goes “keep your heels on the floor, o-oh lord” or something like that? I can’t remember what commercial it played on but it was definitely on TV…

  47. Hey to those of u looking for ‘Color my world’ fromt he M&M’S commercial: I FOUND IT!!!! First I have to say cudos to the dude who found out it was sung by Renee Cologne that really helped! Now if you have Limewire; type in ‘Color my World’ in the title space (in the audio search thingy) and then ‘Renee Cologne’ in the Aritst space. It takes a while to find it and the first one i tried was some man talking but the next one was it! Its only the short song off the commercial so its like 30 secs long but its definately the one fromt the advert!! YAY!

  50. I just wanted to re-post my question because it is REALLLLLY bugging me! I need to know the song that goes “keep your heels on the floor, o-oh lord” … It has this mellow synth beat if I remember correctly… Other parts of the lyrics have a beat like, “na-na na-na, na-na na-naaaa” (that’s not what’s said, I can’t remember what is.) It’s sung by a woman…

    If any of you can perform miracles and summon someone who knows this song, I would be infinitely grateful!
