From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

I don’t know if this is gonna help, but i’ve taken spanish for a while and it sounds like the lyrics for the Hawk clothing line from kohl’s commercial is “maestro de la fuego” which means something like teacher of the fire… it may be a song made by Kohl’s just for its commercial, but it doesn’t sound like it…

  2. I’m looking for the name of the song that plays in a Nike Ad that is airing right now. The ad features a long montage of clips of people “defying gravity” ie skateboarders jumping, people vaulting, slamming a basketball etc. Sometimes even playing the clips upside down. It ends with a person running and says “we all need a little less gravity” or something like that. the song is really quiet and relaxing sounding. It’s a very cool ad. Please lt me know if anyone knows the song I’m talking about.

  3. EVERYONE LOOKING FOR THE VOLKSWAGON SONG FOR THE RABBIT COMMERCIAL THAT PLAYED DURING THE TOUR DE FRANCE BUT STILL PLAYS NOW! It’s called The Birds and the Bees by Patrick and Eugene. And we found out that you can just call information and tell them you want the 800 number for whatever business and ask a customer service phone representative and they’ll look the song up if you explain the commercial. good luck!

  11. Every year JCPenny has a sick commercial song.
    Like two years ago it was rock your body mic check one two.
    But the first one this year was somthing like “We gone get our FASH-ON” now its a different one. But I liked the first one better.

  12. There is now another version of Nip/Tuck’s commercial in which there is another song with the lyrics – “well after all that we’ve been through would you still call this love baby” and I’d love to know what song that is, thanks again to those who respond !!

  13. Song in car ad-

    There’s a commercial that’s been playing on TV a bit – in theaters a lot I’ve noticed.

    It’s in a dark city, lights everywhere. It drives sort of.. into a tunnel and there’s a fork in the road. Now, it [this is hard to describe] melts into two and one goes each way. After doing this a few more times, they all meet up at an interesction and “re-fuse” into one.

    In each of these cars, there is a different person, reflecting the car’s color, at the end, when the cars remerge, you see all of them in the same car, and one of them says “whoa.”

    Can anyone help me by telling me, either what song is in the commercial, or what car it’s for?

  14. @amur19lax – those are actually for OLD NAVY i think. I don’t know the artist or where to get them, but they all loop in the store non-stop. [extremely repetitive!]. Going by the lyrics, they were definately recorded specially for the store.

    Pluto the Blue alien for sony walkman, he is in a doctors office and she is looking for a pulse and its a techno beat, there are two different versions, I am looking for the names of both songs.

    Priceline: old william shatner commercial he is talking about how its a new world and this music starts up and he stands with his arms out looking around.

    the new world trade center memorial fund commercial with the small memorial in new york and some kid setting flowers down, i know the song from somewhere and I am obsessing. HELP ME!!!

  32. DJ Anubis, you’re talking about the same song as the one i was looking for in #1978. I found out it’s called “I Woke Up” by One-T. It’s not released yet and Cingular has bought the rights to the song. However, an extended version is supposed to be available in October 2006, whatever that means, lol.

  33. so this isn’t from a commercial, but i thought i’d try:

    in the tv show, laguna beach, there is a song that they play at the beginning of almost every episode, where they say “previously on laguna beach.” it’s just a piano song, with no lyrics, at least as far as i know. if anyone knows what song it is, i’d really appreciate it!

I have a question about a song ive recently heard on the WB… this song used to come on when a show was leaving the WB for good… or when a show was coming to its series finale…. now that the WB will be transforming into the CW network… the song comes on to advertise the Farewell special which will feature the 1st episode of 4 of the WBs best shows from the past… buffy, dawson, felicity and angel…. the song has words that to me sounds like “fast as i remember… do you believe in angels… i can’t wait to fall… i cant wait at all” … i am not too sure about these lyrics… but id really like to kno what song this is and who sings it… sounds like a male voice

    RE:Jeep compass and crysler commercials…..
    The infamous rapper KRS-One’s made the song “Steady Bounce,” from his 2001 album ‘Strickly for Da Breakdancers & Emceez’
    He actually took a lyric from The sped up vocals by a 1990’s rapper Nine from a song called ‘Whatcha Want?’. Where nine says the line once in the song (Steady bouncing in Jeeps on the New York Streets)

    If you pay attention to the jeep commercial the i-pod in the car actually shows the title, and artist of the song hehe
