Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  3. Hey i was wondering if anyone knew the title or the artist in the recent Cinemax trailer for Roll Bounce (its only about 20 seconds long) There are no words too it.. but i was hoping someone might know the title of it. Thanks a lot.

  7. alright good luck with this one..it’s pretty vague..There is a commercial with people helping other people out, they’re just walking around…but there is an instrumental background with a female singing..it’s killing me please help. I’m not quite sure what business produced it.

  9. I have only seen this commercial once or twice beginning this month Sept 2006, so it must be fairly new. It is one for diamonds ( didn’t catch the brand name) but has a woman singing a very beautiful song> some of the lyrics go like this: “What are you doing for the rest of your life?

  11. Um… does anyone know the song from that petco commercial with the weiner dog in it.I’m not sure how recently it came out, but i just saw it the other day. I can’t seem to figure out what the song is. Maybe the company just made it up, but i don’t think they did. It goes something like “you without me, me without you..” If anyone knows what it is let me know.Thanks!

  21. I have been looking for the name of the opera song that is in a ton of commercials and movies. Someone described it as dum,dum,dum,dum/dum,dum,dum,dum/dum,dum,dum/dum,dum. It is o’ fortuna by Carl Orff. It is the really moving piece. The best version is by Andree Rieu!!!

    One is a song called P.I.M.P by alex peace
    and the other song “Unh Tiss Unh Tiss” is by a group called Bloodhound gang..

    On the majority of car related videos if you can get a pause shot of the stereo playing the song it usually has the song title/artist on it…. Both these vids do and so did the KRS one bobble head commercial..

    Supposedly theres a 3rd song called Headbanging Dummies, but i never found it…only found pimp and uh tiss….

  49. Anyone know the song from the PONTIAC G6 COMMERCIAL? The commercial starts off with a black background with a black car, then has a reflection of the SAME car but in white. It sounds like a band, has a similar voice like the lead singer from Oasis where he sounds kind of British.. I only know PART of the lyrics and the end it goes like “follow the liiiiiiiiight… feveeeer..” Those might be the wrong words but it sounds like it. PLEAAAAASE ANYONE?!
