Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  11. Dan, the Blaupunk comercial created that music just for the commercial. It is just a “short.” They have had so many requests for it as a “real” song, they are considering making a proper recording.

  16. OK this might be a hard one but I really hope someone will be up to the challenge. In the PC Game THE SIMS TWO, I want to know the composer or the song titles of the classical songs on the radio, especially the song thats kind of slow with a violin solo at the begining.

    Also the instrumental piece in the “Diamond is forever” commercial with the young and old couples in the park I would like would love to know the name or composer of that song.

  28. Im looking for this ambient song, i believe it played in a car commercial. It has violins, and piano that plays the same amazing notes over and over again, this wierd intrument/sound that makes this echoing “booooooo” sound, and some singer keeps repeating ‘nobody…’ and then something else i cant remember, then another guy starts “singing”, but its more like talking.

    Please help, I’ve been searching for weeks.

    The words SOUND LIKE “come and look into your heart” but upon searching, I got nothing!

  38. Hello, this is for Pam who’d asked about the Ghirardelli commercial that’s currently running. The background is a classical tune sung by female voices. I was looking this one up today too. Happy to tell you it’s:

    Dome Epias (Flower Duet) from Léo Delibes’s opera “Lakme”. There are a couple of different mildly varying arranagements of it. I’m not sure who the singers are in the commercial but the closest I’ve found are:

    1. City of Prague Phiharmonic Orchestra, James Fitzpatrick; Charlotte Kinder, Mezzo Soprano, Charlotte Kinder, Soprano

    2. Ingrid Kertesi, Monika Krause & Roberto Servile

    If you look in iTunes you’ll find many listings for this song.

  43. LMAO, this site really wants to post comments, anyway… what I MEANT to post is THANK YOU for the Ghirardelli music, even if it was meant for Pat. I KNOW that song, but could never figure it out so I gave up. It drove me crazy for a looooong time..

    Also, I just saw the Target commercial with the Santa Claus song mix and IT IS Fatboy Slim. Yay, hah

  46. ok so theres this commercial, where this guy and a girl get out of work or wherever, and the girl tells him that they’ll take her car.
    the guy was listening to his ipod/mp3 player(not sure which) and he plugs it in to the car, and then this song kicks in, its something like “oh oh here we go. turn up the radio”.
    i cant find it ANYWHERE!!!

  49. Ok I am looking for the name of the song that comes out in the Westin Hotel Commercial. It’s really just music and a girl just moaning a note. It’s like mood music. I have a DVR and replay it so many times. Would be better to know who it may be. Can anyone help?
