Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  2. I was wondering if anyone knows of the song in the Cingular Blackjack Commercial where the guy is shuffling the phone like a deck of cards? I am not sure if it is a real song, but if I anyone could help that would be great.

  3. I didn’t count, but it seems like there’s about 5 people in a row that asked for the same song! If you’d just look at a few posts above the one you’re getting ready to post… you’ll see the answer.

    FATBOY SLIM’S “WOnderful Night” is in like 294 commercials. The words are WONDERFUL NIGHT, NOT Light/Life. That’s more than likely the song you’re looking for!! =)

    Continueing what Ali said, the album is palookaville and the mix with “Here Comes Santa Clause” was only made for that commercial, and isn’t released.

  14. ad, i asked a friend and she came up with “yours to keep” by teddybears stockholm. although, i don’t even know how recent that is or if it’s the right commercial.

  24. I’m still looking for the song from the Westin Hotel commercial. It’s just relaxing music. It plays on about 2 different commercials but 1 I know slowly draws a picture of two slices of cucumbers. The musics playing at this point and when the drawing is done it looks like a face mask,like one you would get at a spa. The commercial is all of 5-7 seconds long. I’d love to purchase it if someone can help me figure out who it is. Thanks to all who are willing to try.

  25. I am looking for the title of the NFL Films song in the new GMC Commercial. The commercial has the NFL Films announcer talking about the GMC cars while the NFL films song is playing in the background. I have heard it so many times and have been looking forever. Thanks.

  26. This song is from a way back. But it is from the Nip Tuck commericial and it sounds like this = “I need love. I neeed love. I need oo la la” I know it does not help the most. I also saw the video for it in Nordstrom, and it has a girl riding on a horse covered with diamonds.

    TAMARA (#2172), The Zales Christmas Commercial plays Cat Power’s “How can I tell you,” it is a cover of Cat Steven’s “How Can I tell you.” They’re equally beautiful.

  48. hey its another person looking for yet another song in a special k commercial. Its the new one where theyre giving away ankle/wrist weights free with every box of special k. Its mostly just the baseline thats played in it, but there are a few words that are said nearing the end of the commercial. Please let me know, thanks!!

  50. oohhh i really wanna know the name of that song too! it plays on Mtv for commercials advertising J-Lo’s show and the Hills show. and the chorus sound really weird. its not like words, its like some “mmm la da dee da dee” thing. and i like it so i need to know who sings it and/or what the name of the song is called.!
