Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

    I would also love it if someone could help me find the piece played in the Diamond is forever commercial where a young couple passes an old couple in the park. It sounds like its the begining of a symphony.

  6. Does anyone know what the name of the song is in the new H2 commercial? It has an emo/alt type sound, with the last lyrics before the end of the spot as, “…about a boy”. Which, of course, led me to believe the song’s title was “About a Boy”. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a similar sounding song with that title anywhere in iTunes.

Does anyone know the song that I think was on a pepsi commercial a couple of years ago.. it went “Can you see..what I see..”by this really pretty female soloist, adn in the background it was like”Dop, dop” sorta sounds. I think maybe she sang “I’m sorry..so sorry..towards the end of the commercial too.” too..but I can’t remember.

  21. Ok what is the song in the MTV 2 promo where they keep showing frames of people in mid air like while theyre jumping. Like there is a lot of guitar in the song and it has a pretty dance rock riff…they play the promo during like when they come back from break for mtv 2 rock countdown.

  28. The song Seal plays while sitting on the lap of that woman in the Verizon Centiron commercial (also featuring Lucy Liu) is an accoustic version of “Crazy”. If you get Limewire you can download a copy.

  32. This site is great! My fiance and I were trying to make a mix cd of great commercial songs and we got most of the cd from this one site! YAY!

    A long time ago someone asked what the TAB energy drink song was. I’m assuming they meant the one with all the girls getting dressed up and has the song goes, “my style is da bomb dida bomb da dang da dang diggy diggy.” Anyway, it’s “My Style” by Cobrastyle. Might be the most fun song in the world. Check it out!

    Also, someone was looking for the original male version of “I Walk The Line”. It was first done by Johnny Cash, and of course June Carter. (Am I the only southerner here?)

  34. This is for all you pop junkies out there …. I AM DESPERATE HERE!!! I am looking for the music used in an MTV commercial some years ago with clips from different videos, one of them being Missy Elliot. The music is slow and I distinctly remember this heavily painted face moving slowly from side to side. It is sung by a woman (with a beautiful voice may I add!!).   37. There’s a JC Penney jewelry commercial where a man gets out of bed from next to his significant other. He sneaks downstairs, and stumbles into a father clock which makes a huge chime. The woman is seen stirring. He then gets back to her, leaves a necklace on her chest, and pretends to be asleep. She wakes up, finds it, and kisses him. I think it was for a Journey diamond necklace… anyways, anyone know what in the world that song was?

    It was sung by a woman. She kept saying something like “I don’t know how to tell you I love you” or “I can’t find the words to say I love you” then I think she repeated “I love you” a few times. I don’t know for sure. It played during the 2006 Christmas season.

  42. i KEEP SEEING THIS COMMERCIAL WITH A BUNCH OF PEOPLE DANCING IN A STORE AND NICOLE FROM THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS IS N IT 2. AND THERE’S A OLD LADY WITH A GRILL IN IT…ANYWAY..COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHO THE HELL IS THE ARTIST FEATURED IN THE COMMERCIAL? THE SONG IS FUNKY AS HELL AND HAS A COOL ROCK EDGE TO IT.     I too have been looking for this piece. I am happy to tell you I have found it. It is called “Flower Duet” by Delibes from the Lakme Opera. I saw it both on the commercial and on the Simpsons. I never saw this kind of website before. It was both really amusing and comforting to see other people like me. Enjoy.

  49. Hey, does anyone know the name of the song in the new ipod commercial? its one of those ones with the colored background and the black silhouettes dancing around all crazy. its kind of a punk rock song, sounds sort of like the ramones.
