Songs in Commercials

From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  2. I’m sorry to ask again but does anyone know the backround song for that Skittles commercial? The one with the orange, green, and yellow fish? I don’t remember if those are the right colors but anyway later you find out the fish are just going the same way the guy is moving the Skittles. If you know, please tell me. THANKS

  3. I was wondering if anyone new the song in the new Newlyweds commercial: It is the one where there are cupids on the screen, and the girl flashes the male. The lyrics to the best of my ability are:
    How can heaven hold a place for me
    When a girl like you has cast a spell on me
    The song that was suggested was by Zero 7, Destiny… But after downloading it- it does not seem like the right song.

  5. Does anybody know that song in the office max commercial with the guy going around giving people stuff that they need, the guy has that weird hair and is pushing a cart around.The end of the song is like “Brother man man get down” then the guy goes into the elevator and it closes

  6. The Chevy commercial with the guy trying to drink his coffee is by Nelly. I’m not sure of the title, though. That’s Nelly, not Nelly Furtado.

  7. Hey, does ANYONE know what the name of the classic song used in the knewer Reebok commercial with several atheletes doing different things very dramatically. (Including a football player running through a field of what appears to be giant rock jacks). Somebody PLEASE help.

  9. EDWIN- the song you are looking for is the theme song from the movie Chariots Of Fire.
    ASHLEY- the song you are looking for is called The Female Of The Species by a group called Space. You can find a remixed verson of it on the Austin Powers soundtrack.
    The Beyonce Pepsi ad where she is singing about the guy who loses his Pepsi in NYC, is based on an opera song from the opera Carmen-it’s called Habanera:La Voila…L’amour est oiseau rebelle
    I think it was SAAB that used the Duke Ellington song, I could be wrong.
    Does anyone know the piece of opera music used in the Fiery Hot Pringles ad where everyone is sweating and looks miserable, except for the one Indian guy who eats the Pringle at the end of the ad. I’m looking for the remixed version of that song. I heard it in a club, and have been searching for it ever since.Any help would be appreciated.

  17. Rich, I too am trying to place the opera song from the new Fiery Pringles ad, because I too remember the techno version, but am trying to figure out the actual opera piece. I can help you with this…I used to have a techno compilation album with it on called Rave ’til Dawn, if there is more than one it has the band Ottorango on it and a song cale F*&! You on it….hope that helps, but if anyone can help either of us I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Let me tell you a little tip…when you want a song title all you gotta do is put the part of the song …well writen….inside “”…in the google search bar i’ve found a lot of the songs you request in this page….next time you like a song just pick a part of the lyric and googalize it hehe…there you go :)…www.google.com

    The Kodak song you mentioned is “Pictures of You” by The Cure, off their “Distingration” cd from the late 1980s.

    I too would like to know the origins of the Geiko tune, with the dogs hanging their head out the car windows.

  33. Another song that catches my attention is the one in Walgreen’s commercial “a town called perfect”, and that weird little country one they play in the “Countrytime Lemonade” commercials.Both are mostly beats like the doggy ad, whoever manages to find that out is truly a genius!!

    -the Geico one with the whistling and the dogs hanging their heads out the window…

    -the audi commercial recently i have seen on ESPN and CBS, with what it sounds like someone saying ‘never never never’ or something in that nature…a side note to this song, it has to be AT LEAST 7 years old, because I have been looking for it since 1996/1997 from a different car commercial which i cant remember, except how it sounds and how the commercial looked (just forgot the car company)…this new song is a slower version of the one I was hunting…
