From a thread on MetaFilter, songs in commercials are becoming a phenomenon all their own — Cadillac is even becoming popular with some younger buyers due to their use of a Zepplin song in an ad.

There’re also websites that help people figure out the artists that performed songs heard in commercials. At first, I was happy to discover SongTitle.info as there’s one song from a GMC Yukon commercial that I’m still trying to track down (the commercial featured the hulking beasts driving in choreographed circles, synchronized-swimming style).

SongTitle has an entry for “Our Day Will Come” by Ruby & The Romantics (with a link to a sound sample) for the Yukon. But, after listening, I ruled that one out. I don’t hold it against SongTitle, but I suppose they just don’t have the details for that particular commercial.

Even Volkswagen has a CD of collected songs from its commercials. Some of the more obvious ones — such as Mr. Roboto — are on there, but I may just get it to discover some new techno artists (good techo is just so hard to find these days).

  5. Does anyone know the song that’s in the commercial, not sure what kind of car it is, but it has two guys, sitting in their car, and I believe it is in a parking lot, and the song playing is a late 80’s, or early 90’s style song. All the guys are doing is listening to the song.

  7. Paula, the Geico commercial song “Hey little honey what’s your 20 20? Is by the Legendary Shack Shakers on their CD Cock a Doodle Dont. It may not sound the same on the CD as they rerecorded it for the commericial. I found this info on the web. Just do a search with “rabbits ears on” and you will find the website.

  8. Can anyone tell me the name of the song used in one of the recent old navy commercials with the old Sister Sledge song “We Are Family” riff in the background? It has rapping lyrics that go something like…Yeah baby, gonna have some fun, Its summer time so lets get out in the sun.

  31. Here’s a hint, when you only know some lyrics, look up the song like this for example: “notice me take my hand lyrics”, it’s helped me a whole lot. Always add “lyrics” to the end. And then to test if it is the right song, go to like, tower records or artist direct website.

    P.S. Has anyone found the countrytime lemonade commercial songs, they all sound like somethin out the 1900’s…I wrote to kraft and they said they don’t know, wow, pretty silly response, but I will cut um some slack cause they do have ALOT of products, some real CHEESY, hehehehe.
