I seem to be the only one here in Dallas who hasn’t seen Super Size Me yet, but I think I may go see it tomorrow at The Inwood. In case you’ve been living in a cave, Super Size Me is a documentary where one guy ate every meal over the course of 30 days at McDonald’s (all while having doctors monitor his health). You can probably guess what happens to this guy.
Its aggregate score at Metacritic is positive (68) and, in particular, all the critics that I trust liked it. Pete Vonder Haar at Film Threat calls it a “Hilarious and often terrifying look at the effects of fast food on the human body.” And, Stephanie Zacharek over at Salon says that “Super Size Me is exploratory, as opposed to being just numbingly didactic, and that’s what makes it so engaging.”
Perhaps ironically, I'm giving some serious thought to grabbing dinner at Fuddruckers beforehand. It’s been a couple months since I’ve been there and I can’t pass up a good hamburger. If you'd like to join me (for Super Size Me or Fuddruckers), just let me know.
you really should go to McDonalds before hand for the true experience. ha!
I thought the movie was funny and well done. Certainly not amazing, but good.
as i’m the only other person who has yet to see this movie, i would. except i have to move tomorrow.
..now i’m wanting a burger. er.
The movie was quite entertaining, and I would recommend it highly.
Good choice! Super Size Me and Control Room are the two movies that I’m wanting to see over the long weekend. Too bad they’re only playing at the Inwood…dragging my butt down there is a pain (but worth it)
I thought that movie REALLY sucked. I don’t know, maybe it was the incredibly lame and boring date with 0 chemistry and a girl who seemed to not have a single interest and had suggested such a terrible movie that biased me.
I do not eat at McDonalds–so to go there, to this film, to see this man eat this disgusting food and to become sick and fat–well what was he thinking–and his doctors with the drama of theirs, they knew he was eating this food at 5,500 calories a day, of fat–why would you be surprised he gets fat and sick.
His salt intake per day must have been at over 20 times the recommended–so when his kidneys got sick I felt no sympathy and no surprise!
Anyway, this movie says something we all know already… and was poorly “acted” to boot.
Sure i’ll come with you, and RuddFuckers sounds great see you then…
Oh wait I am in Scotland and totally unable to come with you to see that movie and go to Fudge Packers with you.
Sorry
I am kinda surprised that people actually liked that movie. I did not see it but heard that they guy was basically eating 2-3 times the calories that a normal person (i.e. non-athlete) should eat in a day and also decided to do as little exercise as possible. I think I’d rather do the opposite experiment and make a documentary. (eat approx 1000 calories a day and somehow fit in over 2 hrs of vigorous exercise every day) Take someone who is already overweight and see what this does to them (and their life…)
