Anil Dash’s kickball game is somewhat of an institution at this point — he organizes an informal kickball game on the Saturday of SXSW before panels. No one really takes the game very seriously, but it’s great fun.
Having said that, his Kick! website still has the info up for 2005 :-/. Has anyone heard whether the game is still on for this year?
I saw something on SXSWbaby saying Anil wasn’t coming and that someone else would be handling it this year. But I have no idea who that is. I emailed Anil a week ago and haven’t heard back. I’m guessing it’s done, sadly.
There was a post on the Six Apart ProNet list on March 5th from Jay Allen stating he and Anil would not be at SXSW.
“Neither Anil nor I are attending SxSW this year (sad… Yes… But too many great things are happening on the home front we need to be present for — yes, exciting stuff…), so unless Mena or Krissy are going to continue the Kick! Tradition from our side or some other dedicated volunteer wants to round up the troops, I’m afraid that our little tradition must take a year off…

D’oh! Well, at least that clears things up, then. And I guess I can make it to that Ajax panel after all :-/.
Lame. It’s a shame that they waited this long to say anything, since there could have no doubt been alternate arrangements made. It’s not as if it’s hard to get a ball and some bases together. (I never thought of Kick as a Six Apart Production(tm) anyway.)
I gotta agree, Josh. Had they let us know a little beforehand, surely a couple people would have stepped up and make it work.
