“We’ll leave groundbreaking to someone else”

ABC: “We’ll leave groundbreaking to someone else”, as spoken by ABC Entertainment President Susan Lyne at the twice annual TV Critics Association tour.

What?? That’s like Avis saying “We’ll let other people try harder, for a change”. I mean, really, are they surprised that I don’t watch their network anymore? (well, except for The Mole)

From time to time — if I’m on the elliptical machine at the gym or I otherwise have some time to ponder life — I sometimes think about what I might select if I were only allowed 5 television channels. If I had to choose today, it’d probably be: Comedy Central (for BattleBots and South Park), TLC (for Junkyard Wars, Trading Spaces, and Robotica), Discovery Channel (for Monster Garage), CBS (for Survivor and Big Brother) and TNN (for Car & Driver TV and TNG).

British Open watching?

Though I don’t particularly enjoy playing golf, I do enjoy watching it. As someone that has attempted to play the game, I can really appreciate the skill and talent that the players have. And, of course, the British Open is this weekend. Or, as they like to call themselves, “The Open Championship” ;).

So, would anyone out there in blogger-land be interested in watching the final round with me? It airs on Sunday from 7:00am - 12:30pm CST. But, that's frightfully early, so I was thinking that through the magic of TiVo’s ability to start-watching-before-the-recording-is-finished, we could time-shift that to “start” at 9:00 or 10:00.

Of course, the DFWBlogs Cocktail Event is this evening, so I’ll mention this idea there as well.

Buffy Season 2 DVD Review

I’m still watching the Buffy Season 1 DVDs that Julie loaned me, but I see that Season 2 is now out on DVD. And, I’ve also come across this review of the Season 2 DVDs.

So far, Jason and I have only made through the first two-part episode on the Season 1 DVDs. To be honest, I wasn’t all that impressed, but I’ve heard that the episodes get better over time, so I haven’t given up on it yet. Or, as the review puts it:

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer really hit its stride in Season Two. The show went beyond just the “high school sucks and monsters are bad” motif and added deep metaphors with [spoiler], [spoiler], and the arrival of Spike and Drusilla.

Anyone watch The Mole?

Hey, does anyone watch The Mole 2 on ABC?

For those not aware, the game features 14 players that complete challenges, adding money to the pot. However, one of the players is “the mole” who is working against the team, trying to sabotage the challenges. And, at the end of each weekly show, the players have to take a quiz to test their knowledge on who’s the mole — and, the player that gets the least questions right about the mole is ejected from the game. Of course, the last player standing at the end of the series wins the pot.

I have my own theories about who the mole is, but it’s more fun to have a conversation with two people ;).
