Orange-flavored liqueur
No liqueurs need to be added to any Modmix recipe. Where appropriate, some recipes contain a natural fruit substitute for orange liqueur — a mix of orange juice concentrate blended with the mild sweetness of evaporated cane juice.
Orange liqueur is a sweet alcoholic beverage made from an infusion of orange-flavored ingredients and a spirit. These liqueurs typically include triple sec, Grand Marnier, Cointreau, and Citronage.
Sometimes these liqueurs contain impurities, called congeners that can cause headaches and nausea. These chemical impurities are by-products of fermentation and distillation and can give each spirit a unique flavor, aroma and color. If heavily consumed, congeners directly contribute to the severity of one’s headaches. Many people mistakenly blame “sweet” drinks for causing headaches, when it’s actually the congeners in the liqueur itself.
Organic Evaporated Cane Juice
Organic evaporated cane juice is a wholesome alternative to refined sugar and is a natural source of sweetness that can be a part of a healthy diet.
While both sweeteners are made from sugar cane, evaporated cane juice does not undergo the processing that refined sugar does. Therefore, unlike refined sugar, it retains more of the nutrients found in the sugar cane. Since it is considered to be more wholesome, it is also used as a sweetener in a host of natural foods.
It may also be known by a variety of other names including dried cane juice, cane juice crystals, milled cane sugar and direct consumption sugar. In Europe it is known as “unrefined sugar.” Evaporated cane juice is available in a variety of forms that vary in texture and flavor, although they all share the characteristic of being darker in color than white refined sugar.
