Louis Leterrier took to the director’s chair for Clash of the Titans, a remake of the 1981 film of the same name. Given that Leterrier has done some halfway decent films (such as the first two Transporter movies), I was cautiously optimistic going into the theater.
My review gets more into it, but the short of it is that I would generally concur with Metacritic’s score of 39 (“Generally unfavorable reviews”). Actually, scratch that, I would have to slightly disagree with Metacritic’s score—if only to the extent that even 39 might be a little too generous.

I was a bit disappointed, too. Here’s my review. I pointed out the effects since the guy who designed all the creatures is someone I knew from my teen years in Arlington, Aaron Sims, who’s been working at Stan Winston Studios for a really long time.
Wade: Your sentiment that “this one seems more focused on that and action at the sacrifice of story and characters” is spot-on.
And, yes, the 3D in the new film is indeed atrocious. I actually ended up in a 3D showing by mistake and I can only say that post-processed 3D just makes regular 2D movies look clownish. By its nature, post-processed 3D can only act upon arbitrary planes within a given frame (such as a person, a horse, or other things), but the problem is that each plane is still flat. So, even though a mountain (or another object) may be “forward” in 3D-space, the mountain itself just looks like a flat sheet of paper.
